Irfan Pathan turns match winner again to help California Knights win by 24 runs and oust New Jersey Triton’s from the US Masters T10

Irfan Pathan emerged as the match winner for the California Knights in successive matches of the US Masters T10 held at Lauderhill, Florida. In the match against the Atlanta Riders on Thursday, he bowled the California Knights to victory through his tight bowling in the last over of the match. In Friday's match against the New Jersey Triton’s, he sparkled with the bat in a rain-affected match reduced to five overs. He cracked an unbeaten 31 to help the California Knights post 76 for 1. The New Jersey Triton’s could muster only 52 for 3 in five overs and lost the match by 24 runs. The defeat resulted in the New Jersey Triton’s failing to qualify for the play-offs.


The New Jersey Triton’s won the toss and elected to field. California Knights' opener and captain, Aaron Finch, hit a quick 19 runs off seven balls with three boundaries and a six. Liam Plunkett got Finch out by having him caught behind by wicketkeeper Naman Ojha. Opener Ashley Nurse hit an unbeaten 24 off 10 balls with two boundaries and two sixes. Irfan Pathan remained unconquered on 31 off 13 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. They helped the California Knights post 76 for 1 in the allotted five overs.


Chasing a run rate of 15.20 wasn’t easy. New Jersey Triton’s opener, Yusuf Pathan, got out on the second ball of the innings to Pawan Suyal for 4. Chris Barnwell and opener Jesse Ryder took the score to 50. Thirty-three runs were needed off the last over. Ben Laughlin, who bowled the last over, had Barnwell out on the third ball of the over for 29. His knock off 15 balls included four boundaries and one six. With the fifth ball, he also got Jesse Ryder out, clean bowled for 14. Laughlin gave away only seven runs in that over and helped the California Knights win the match by 24 runs.
