South Africa’s Faf du Plessis who has captained World XI and South Africa together in 115 matches and recorded 70 victories for a win ratio of 60.86 will captain Bangla Tigers in the oncoming Abu Dhabi T10 set to commence from November 19, 2021.

Bangla Tigers were on the lookout for a captain whose on-field exploits would speak loudly of his brilliance. The team has picked former South African skipper Faf du Plessis who fits in perfectly into that mould.

While deciding on Faf to lead his team, Bangla Tigers owner Mohammad Yasin Chowdhury, who is a passionate lover of the game and takes keen interest in the formation of the squad, said: “We all know what he (Faf) has achieved both on and off the field. His deeds speak for his brilliance.”

This franchise is owned by FMC Group of Companies, a shipbuilding & ship-repairing company based in Chattogram, Bangladesh. The nearly 160 million cricket loving fans in Bangladesh as well as the over 1.6million Bangladeshi expatriates in the Gulf consider it as their team and are extremely supportive of them.

Yasin Chowdhury expressed his delight over getting Faf as his team's skipper and added: “It is terrific to have a world-class player like Faf in our squad. We have all seen his exploits for South Africa in various formats. He is a champion cricketer. It is a huge honour to have him in our squad.”

Faf holds the record for playing the most number of international matches (108) without scoring a duck.

Commenting on captaining a side in the world’s shortest cricket format, Faf said: “It is an exciting new format to be part of. I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s biggest names in this league and representing team Bangla Tigers. It is going to be a thrilling time for the game of cricket. Its heart-warming to see leagues like T10 putting in so much hard work and offering such exciting format for sports enthusiasts. I can’t wait to get going.”

Abu Dhabi T10 is being held under the aegis of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), with official approval of the International Cricket Council (ICC), at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Faf, who has the honour of scoring a century on his Test debut, carries with him the experience of 69 Tests, 143 ODIs and 50 T20Is for South Africa. He has captained South Africa in all three formats and the World XI in a three T20 international series against Pakistan in 2017.

The franchise has revealed that Faf’s appointment is the first in a series of announcements scheduled to be made by Bangla Tigers in the coming days.
