Day of Defenders CC at Dubai Cricket Council’s DCC XI Rapid Fire Division One tournament with a double triumph as DCC Starlets down Lyari Kings

Defenders Cricket Club recorded a double triumph on the third day of the DCC XI Rapid Fire Division One tournament defeating VTAC Volts by nine wickets in the first match of the day on Sunday and then defeating DCC Starlets in the third match. DCC Starlets, playing their second match defeated Lyari Kings by 51 runs.

The hero of the day was Defenders Cricket Club’s Wajid Khan who emerged as the player of the match in the first match against VTAC Volts cracking 51 runs as well as in the third match against DCC Starlets scoring 37 and bowling tightly to take a wicket too. Druv Parashar was the star of DCC Starlets’s win over Lyari Kings top scoring with an unbeaten 40 off 19 balls.

 

Wajid Khan’s sparkling half century spurs Defenders

In the first match of the third day, Defenders Cricket Club won the toss and elected to field. Defenders’ skipper Yasir Maharvi took the prize wicket of VTAC Volts opener and star batsman Mazhar Hussain trapping him leg before for a duck. One-drop Darshan Pagarani got run out to a Wajid Khan throw. At the score of 10, opener Rejee Mohan got bowled by Saqib Manshad for 7.

Wajid Khan removed skipper Vinan Nair for 6. Sherdian Hadfield kept the scoreboard moving hitting 19 runs but Moahmamd Nadeem removed Mohammad Ajmal for 8 and also Sheridan to restrict VTAC Volts to 73 for 6 in 10 overs.

Defenders, who have a strong batting line up, found the target easy to get. Opener Wajid Khan unleashed his strokes with his partner Abdullah Azhar playing second fiddle. Wajid Khan got bowled by Darshan Pagarani when Defenders were four short of the target. His knock of 51 came off 26 balls with three boundaries and five sixes. Adullah Azhar (17n.o) and Umer Dogger (6n.o) ensured an emphatic nine wicket win in 6.5 overs.

Druv Parashar’s breezy 40 lift DCC Starlets

In the second match of the day, DCC Starlets outplayed Lyari Kings by 51 runs. DCC Starlets elected to bat first with the aggressive opening pair of skipper Ronak Panoly and Punya Mehra, They put on 35 runs before Panoly got bowled to Krish for 14. At the score on 44, Punya Mehra too departed falling to Ghanim Feroz for 23. Four runs later Ahaan Fernandes too got out to Ghanim Feroz for 4.


Shrey Sethi and Dhruv swelled the total to 92 when Shrey got out to Manal Siddiqui for 15. When four balls were remaining in the last over, Aditya Shetty too fell to Manal Siddiqui for 5. Dhruv, through his unbeaten 40 made. off just 19 balls had three boundaries and two sixes, ensured a total of 105 for 5 in 20 overs.

Lyari Kings’ chase got off to a disastrous note. They lost opener Nael to the first ball to Sailles Jaishankar. Opener Saad Naeem too fell to Ronak Panoly for 3. When Ronak Panoly trapped Manal Siddiqui leg before for a duck, Lyari Kings were reeling at three wickets down for seven runs. Adithya Shetty made it tougher by clean bowling Aziz Ansari for 6.  Saqib Ashfaf got out to  Saad Abdullah for 1 and Adithya Shetty struck again to dismiss Emmi for 9. Their challenge ended when Haroon Ghaus got run out for 21 and when Amaan Ali dismissed Nikhil Pancholi for 2. In the end Lyari Kings could muster only 54 for 8 in the 10 overs.

Wajid Khan turns match winner again for Defenders

In the third match, Defenders Cricket Club snapped the victory run of DCC Starlets by 7 wickets. Defenders after winning the toss elected to field like they did in the first match of the day against VTAC Volts. DCC Starlets openers Ronak Panoly and Punya Mehra went for their runs was usual. At the score on 34, Punya Mehra got out trapped leg before by Muhammad Nadeem for 11. Ronak Panoly too fell four runs later to Wajid Khan for 24.

Dhruv steadied the innings with Shrey Sethi and took the score to 87 in nine overs before Dhruv got run out for 33. Shrey Sethi hit an unbeaten 23 to ensure a challenging total of 103 for 3 in 10 overs.

Defenders openers Wajid Khan and Ali Abid hit 33 runs in 3.1 overs. Ali Abid got bowled to Adithya Shetty for 7. With the very next ball Adithya trapped Muhammad Nadeem leg before. Wajid Khan and Muhammad Imran quickly settled down and kept the run flow. At the score on 58, Wajid Khan got out stumped by wicketkeeper Vansh Kumar off Adithya Shetty for 37.

Muhammad Imran got a good partner in Farhan Babar and they took their team to the target in 9.2 overs. Imran remained unbeaten on 33 off 17 balls with two boundaries and two sixes. Farhan Babar remained unconquered on 22 off 12 balls with a six and two boundaries.
