Seven Districts and Karwan Cricket Club off to a winning start in Sharjah 100

Seven Districts and Karwan Cricket Club were the winner of the first day of the Sharjah 100 which commenced at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday. This format which is being introduced by Sharjah Cricket in domestic cricket was well received and keenly fought. The players adapted to the new type of rules and played enthusiastically.

Seven Districts pull of exciting win

The first match was between Seven Districts and Colatta Chocolates ended in an exciting nine runs win for Seven Districts. Batting first, Seven Districts lost opener Muhammad Irshad, bowled by Gopakumar Gopalakrishnan for 5 by the 10th ball. Opener Muhammad Irfan too followed clean bowled by Mazhar Hussain for 1 at the 16th delivery. Wicketkeeper Farman Ali and skipper M Haider took the score to 68 in 66 balls when Haider got caught behind by wicketkeeper Shakeer Hydru off Junaid Shamsu for 24. Raees Ahmed too followed caught and bowled by Mohammad Rizwan Sabir for 11 by the 76th delivery.  Muhammad Saghir Khan took the score past the 100 run mark but in the 89th delivery he fell, run out for 19. Almas Ayub got caught by Junaid Shamsu off Mazhar Hussain for a duck in 91 balls. Farman Ali remained unbeaten on 32 and Lahiru Sandaruwan remained unconquered on 14 and the first innings of a 100 ball match ended at 117 for 6.


Chasing the target, opener Gopakumar Gopalakrishnan to the ninth ball bowled by Haider Ali for 2. One-drop Janaka Chaturanga got out to Wahab Hassan for 9 with the 33rd delivery at the score on 34. Opener Shakeer Hydru got out to the 53rd ball at the score on 58 for 3. Skipper Lamxan Sreekumar became the fourth wicket to fall the score on 61 to the 58th ball to Abubakar Khan. Half the side were out in 79 balls when Akhil K Das got out to Wahab Hassan for 15. After Junaid Shamsu got caught by Muhammad Saghir off Haider Ali for 7 in the 95th ball and Mohammed Rizwan Sabir scored an unbeaten 11, Colatta Chocolates fell short by nine runs.

Ansar Khan steals show for Karwan Cricket Club

In the second match, Karwan Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat. Their openers Qamar Awan and Ansar Khan put on 58 runs in 23 balls before Awan got caught behind by wicketkeeper Fazal Oasis off Mohammad Ajmal for 23. One drop Salman Khan and Ansar Khan took the score to 99 in 43 balls when Salman got out to Vishnuraj for 12. At the score on 109, Ansar Khan too departed falling caught behind by wicketkeeper Fazal off Vimalnadh for 66 in the 52nd ball. 


Ameer Hamza and Tariq Mahmood swelled the total to 129 in 69 balls when Vimalnadh struck again to trap Ameer leg before for 14 in the 69th ball. Though Waqas Ali fell to the 71st ball becoming Vishnuraj’s another victim, Bilal Cheema chipped in an unbeaten 22 and Tariq Mahmood through an unbeaten 42 off 28 balls with two boundaries and three sixes helped Karwan post a total of 199 for 5 in 100 balls.


Chasing the target, CSS Group could not get off to a good start. Opener Fazal Oasis fell to the 10th ball the score of 15 to Saif Ghouri for 12. One-drop Riyas  Ali too departed caught behind by wicketkeeper Bilal Cheema off Salman Saleem for 10 to the 22nd ball. Two runs later, Vishnuraj got out for a duck to Waqas Ali. Soon Waqas  Ali also removed Mohammad Ajman for 12. Half the side were out for 69 when Vimalnadh fell to the 53rd ball to Babar Iqbal for 11. At the same score Mohammad Nadim too fell to Babar Iqbal for a duck. Karwan went for the kill dismissing opener Rowmahs to the 59th ball at the score on 77. Three runs later Farzeen Ahmed got caught behind by Bilal off Tariq Mahmood for 1 to the 68th ball. Mohammad Sheraz and Ranjit Haridas took the score to 93 but Sheraz got caught and bowled by Tariq Mahmood for 4. CSS group were restricted to 101 in 89 balls when Ranith Haridas got out to Ansar Khan for 18.
