Sharjah Cricket to stage 100 ball tournament with top ten domestic teams

Sharjah Cricket which has been in the forefront of introducing many innovations in UAE's domestic cricket, has launched a 100 ball tournament. Ten top teams will take part in this special tournament which is being held from February 27 to March 17 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.


This format will see two teams playing a single innings which is restricted to a maximum of 100 balls. This is shorter than Twenty20 format and has proved to be exciting for the players and fans. The tournament will be called Sharjah 100. 


Ten top teams in the UAE will compete in this tournament with first match starting from 7.45pm and second match from 11.15pm. Revealing the playing conditions, Sharjah Cricket said it is a shift from overs cricket to number of balls cricket. It will be delight to watch as an over, wherever it is referred to in the Laws and Playing Conditions shall comprise 5 balls. Any reference to 6 balls or 6 valid balls in the Laws shall be replaced by 5 balls and 5 valid balls respectively.


Many changes can be witnessed in this contest. Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per match. An innings should be completed within 70 Minutes. Accordingly, even powerplay rules have been modified with power play being the first 25 balls of a 100-ball innings.The fielding side change ends after 10 balls. The penalty for a No Ball will be 2 runs.

The tournament will be played on league-cum-knockout basis. Two groups - Pool A & B is made up of five teams each. The tournament follows a cross pool round robin format • Top four teams (Rank 1 to Rank 4) will qualify to play the Semi-Finals.
