Mazhar Hussain’s timely knock and vital breakthrough helps Colatta Chocolates record an exciting 15-runs win over Seven Districts in the Cup semifinal 2 of the Sharjah Ramadan T20 Cup

Colatta Chocolates’ Mazhar Hussain produced an allround show by scoring a timely 31 runs and also taking a vital wicket to ensure his team an exciting 15-runs win over Seven Districts in the Cup semifinal 1 of the Sharjah Ramadan T20 Cup at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Colatta Chocolates posted 198 for 5 and then restricted Seven Districts to 183 for 7 in 20 overs

 


Mazhar Hussains’s timely alllround show

 

Colatta Chocolates won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a brilliant start with openers Shakeer Hydru and Renjith Mani putting on 82 runs in 8.3 overs. Mani, who looked all set for his half century, got bowled by Muhammad Iran for 45. His knock off 35 balls had seven boundaries and one six. Opener Shakeer Hydru fell at the score of 100 in 10.5 overs to Muhammad Haider for 41. His knock off 28 balls had two boundaries and three sixes. Skipper Laxman Sreekumar and Mazhar Hussain added another 22 runs before Laxman got caught behind by wicketkeeper Farman Ali off Muhammad Haider for 3.

 

Mazhar Hussain and Junaid Shamsu steered the total past the 150 mark. Muhammad Iran struck again to remove Mahzar Hussain by having him caught and bowled for 31. Shabik fell to Muhammad Haider for 3. The consistent Junaid Shamsu hit an unbeaten and invaluable 41 runs off 25 balls with two boundaries and a six. Akhil K Das too chipped in with an unbeaten 15 and Colatta Chocolates posted 198 for 5 in 20 overs.

 


Chasing the target, Seven Districts began on a promising note. Openers Raees Ahmad and Muhammad Irfan put on 50 runs in 4.2 overs before Raees got clean bowled by Gopakumar Gopalakrishnan for 41. Muhammad Irfan and one-drop Abdul Ghaffar added another 30 runs before Ghaffar got out to Akhil K Das for 16. Junaid Khan Afrifi and Muhammad Irfan took the score to 101 when Irfan got out to Krishan Paul for 32. Seventeen runs later, Junaid Khan Afrifi got out to Krishan Paul for 21.

 

Atta Ur Rahim carried the score to 175 in 18.2 overs igniting hopes of a victory, but he got run out for 22. Mazhar Hussain then provided the vital breakthrough removing Almas Ayub for 36. The fall of these two wickets was a huge setback for Seven Districts. Then Renjith Mani clean bowled Muhammad Haider for 1 with the fifth ball of the last over, and in the end Seven Districts was restricted to 183 for 7 and they lost the match by 15 runs.
