Both, the late Padmakar Shivalkar and former Indian Test star Praveen Amre, have coached Harmeet Singh who produced an allround show to gift USA an exciting nine run win over Oman in a high scoring ICC Men’s Cricket League 2 match at Lauderhill ground in Florida. The match produced a spectacular chase after USA posted 293 for 8 but Oman fell short being restricted to 284 for 9.

The Lauderhill ground in Florida, from where I had reported the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches in 2024, was the venue for this intense chase. Incidentally, the highest total posted in this ground was by USA on May 17, 2025 when the hosts posted 361 for 3 in 50 overs against Canada in the ICC Men’s Cricket League 2.

One of the huge impacts of ICC hosting the 2024 T20 World Cup in USA has been the rise of this team as a strong unit. In this match against Oman, USA posted 293 for 8 through wicketkeeper and opener Smith Patel scoring 41 runs. He had hit an unbeaten 152 in the match against Canada to guide USA post 361 for 3. Every batter in the USA team against Oman chipped in with runs. Opener Shayan Jahangir scored 37 and skipper Monank Patel hit 26. Saiteja Mukkamalla top scored with 73, and even batters lower down like Sanjay Krishnamurthy hit an unbeaten 40 with the player of the match Harmeet Singh scoring 33 runs.

Oman refused to get pressurised by the huge target. Opener and captan Jatinder Singh hit 42, but was unfortunately run out. Hammad Mirza hit 50 runs while wicketkeeper Vinay Shukla scored 46 runs. Sufyan Mehmood top scored with 72 runs. Incidentally, Sufyan is an Oman born left-handed batter. Harmeet Singh bagged three wickets for 69 while Jasdeep Singh too took three wickets for 64 to restrict Oman to 284 for 9 in 50 overs. Oman needed 14 runs from the last over but Jasdeep gave away only four runs. The match swung USA’s way when Jasdeep clean bowled Sufyan in the 48th over.

Player of the Match Harmeet Singh was born in Mumbai. He came into the limelight while playing in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. He had played for Mumbai, India Under-19 and for Rest of India before migrating to the USA.  Now USA tops the table in this league with 14 wins from 20 matches. Oman is third with 12 victories from 20 matches.
