What’s behind Ajman Titans’ four consecutive victories and qualify for the Abu Dhabi T10 play-offs

By K.R. Nayar

Abu Dhabi.  It’s never easy for a team that has lost their first two matches to rise with renewed fire and win the next four. But Ajman Titans has shown that true titans are forged in the heat of adversity. Their players have proven that determination, positivity and unshakeable belief can turn a faltering start into a powerful march forward.

Ajman Titans in number two slot confirm their qualification for play-offs

Many believe that a tournament is only about lifting the trophy, but the real champions are those who display the verve to rise from setbacks and chase success with spirit. The Titans have done exactly that in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament, and on Wednesday they added another great moment by conquering Deccan Gladiators, the defending champions.

Victories over strong opponents or successive wins never come wrapped in ease; they are carved out by minds united in purpose and fuelled by the belief that they can conquer any challenge. Moeen Ali, the team’s inspirational skipper, leads this spirit.

Moeen Ali's yet another breezy knock

Whenever the team wants to be lifted, he walks in with his bat, which turns into a magic wand. Runs flow from his bat as if they are stored inside it. His scores after coming out to bat with nearly half the overs already over are 59 n.o., 13, 33 n.o., 29 n.o., 3 n.o., and 31.

Speaking about his team’s resurgence, Moeen said: “After losing the first two games we have come back amazingly strong. Our win over Deccan Gladiators was our best performance.” On his own sublime form, he added: “I have been working hard before the tournament. I’ve been in Dubai before the tournament and have trained hard. Hard work pays off and I back myself. It’s not about hitting the ball hard but playing some good shots.”

Titans’ coach Mickey Arthur, always a teacher at heart, has the gift of inspiring his players with clarity and confidence. “We have played some very good cricket. We have won four in a row and we need to keep that momentum. Players have found their feet, their roles, and we gel well as a team. Anything can happen in T10 cricket at any time, but we have to keep playing good cricket to win.” He reserved special praise for his captain: “Moeen has been absolutely amazing. He has hit the ball so well, and he has come in at crucial periods and changed the game.”

Akif Javed, Player of the Match against Deccan Gladiators, radiated pride while reflecting on his performance. “This was an important match for us and so I wanted to bowl at my best. Moeen bhai (brother) had told me to bowl at my full pace, and I did it. Mickey Sir too had told me how to bowl on this wicket. I hope to continue to do well and take my team to the final.”

A thumbs up from Akif Javed, the player of the match

Akif’s fiery three-wicket spell included the prized scalps of Andre Russell, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran. When asked which wicket meant the most to him, he smiled and said: “It was the wicket of Pooran. He is my favourite player too.”

Akif has played in three One Day Internationals for Pakistan, with his last appearance coming against New Zealand in April 2025, where he had bagged four wickets. He now has seven international wickets to his name.

Akif Javed with yours sincerely

“I wish to keep bowling at my best, keep learning from all matches, and represent my country, giving my best there too,” said Akif, who was born in Karak, a remote town 130 kilometers from Peshawar. He used to help his father as a shopkeeper just to make ends meet, saving whatever he could to attend the Pakistan Super League selection trials. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, he stands tall, ready to help the Titans script history of their own in this tournament.
